CARL ORFF'S 'CARMINA BURANA'
Berliner Philharmoniker, Sir Simon Rattle
With 'CARMINA BURANA' by Carl Orff the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra is continuing its highly successful tradition of presenting a dance-program each year in the Arena in Berlin. Orff’s composition is based on medieval texts about happiness, drunkenness, gluttony, sensual delight, love and the inescapable wheel of fortune.
200 young dancers are developing a choreography under the guidance of Royston Maldoom. At the same time 170 pupils are studying passages of this opulent work together with Simon Halsey and the Berlin Radio Choir. The climax is to be a joint performance with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Choir under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. This thrilling music- and dance-program lasts 60 minutes and is to be filmed from 12 camera positions.
