SACRED SONGS IN MILANO
'In a sense all music is sacred, sounding as if it reached us from a divine sphere.'
Plácido Domingo.
SACRED SONGS is Plácido Domingo’s most personal album. It is a wholly new recording of an album with reflective songs, arias and duets. ‘Throughout the years sacred music has continually been present in my life, and I wished to make this CD in the belief that everyone lives through certain moments in which they would like to hear music of this kind.’The pieces cover a period of 300 years, from the early 18th century up to the present. Accordingly they are in a whole range of styles. They include such popular songs as Franck’s ‘Panis Angelicus’ and Gounod’s ‘Ave Maria’ based on Bach, together with other songs new to many listeners. These include a Kyrie by Paolo Rustichelli, born in Rome, and an Ave Maria by Plácido junior, the tenor’s second eldest son. In two duets this great Spanish tenor is partnered by the Norwegian actress and singer Sissel – a moving combination.

Each in its own right is a tale of artistic passion and precision, of self-reliance and shared experiences, of small gestures and big feelings in and around the recording sessions.
