About BOOMTOWN MEDIA

"We believe in relevant and meaningful entertainment.
Films that affect people and can set things in motion.
That is our passion."
BOOMTOWN MEDIA was founded in 1999 by producers Andrea Thilo, Uwe Dierks and producer/director Thomas Grube and has since produced numerous first rate documentary and music films for cinema and television worldwide.
The producers at BOOMTOWN MEDIA believe in relevant and meaningful entertainment, films that affect and inspire people and can set things in motion. Tales which help us to learn from life, which mobilize forces and lend courage, and which inspire and thrill – such are the films we believe in and are willing to stake everything on, for the sake of imbuing a wide public with the necessary yeast of creativity.
Consistantly, art and culture have been an important focus of their productions and co-productions. We have always been fascinated by the lives and ideals of creative artists who kindle others with their own enthusiasm – artists like the painter KARL WESCHKE, the choreographer ROYSTON MALDOOM, the BERLIN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and its conductor SIR SIMON RATTLE, the PORGY & BESS company NEW YORK HARLEM THEATRE, musicians like the violinists HILARY HAHN or ANNE SOPHIE MUTTER, singers like PLACIDO DOMINGO and SISSEL, the PRISON DRAMA GROUP 'AUFBRUCH', young DANCERS IN WARSAW and many more.
Innovation and a high production value typify our productions, and since many years BOOMTOWN MEDIA has been producing in High Definition and Dolby Surround Sound Quality. Our films have gleaned many awards, among the foremost being a nomination for the German Television Prize in 2000 for the documentary WARSAW EXPRESS, the Ernst Schneider Prize in 2003 for the film HARKSEN OR THE GREAT GREED, the Moving Pictures Award of Toronto in 2003 for the dance film ELEMENTS OF MINE, the Dance Screen Brighton Award in 2005 for the dance performance LE SACRÉ DU PRINTEMPS (DANCE SERIES I), the Bavarian Film Prize in 2004 and two German Film Prizes in 2005 (for the best documentary and the best editing), the German Critics’ Prize in 2005, the Gilde Film Prize in 2005, the Clarion Award in 2005 (UK), the ECHO Classic in 2006, and the German Record Critics’ Prize for the cinema documentary RHYTHM IS IT!, which also gained several international accolades and became one of the most successful documentaries in German cinemas ever. Thomas Grube’s latest film TRIP TO ASIA – which premiered at the 58th Berlin Filmfestival – was successfully released in cinemas in spring 2008 and received the German Cinema Guild Award 2008 for Best Documentary as well as the Second Prize "Time of History" at the International Valladolid Film Festival 2008 and was voted BEST OF FEST at the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2009.
In may 2009 BOOMTOWN MEDIA has been awarded the prestigious "Hermann-Voss-Kulturpreis". "With their visionary cinema and documentary films RHYTHM IS IT! and TRIP TO ASIA BOOMTOWN MEDIA triggers important impulses with lasting impact for the musical landscape", explains the jury in their decision statement. "Especially RHYTHM IS IT!, the film about a dance project featuring pupils with a migration background initiated an ongoing discussion about the importance of musical education and made follow-up projects of other orchestras possible."
