Uwe Dierks was born in 1961 neat the Dutch border in Nordhorn, in Lower Saxony. He completed an apprenticeship in book-trading at the Kösel publishing and distribution company in Cologne before studying German and Nordic languages at Berlin’s Free University and at Cologne University.

In 1989 he began working for Pro Ltd. in Cologne as Alfred Biolek’s personal assistant. In the following years he helped develop television programs like the weekly ‘Boulevard Bio’, for which he was also a producer. In 1993, while staying in Cologne, he switched to RTL television. There, in Christiane Ruff’s department, he was responsible for developing and producing fiction formats for comedy and sitcom like ‘The Camper’, ‘Is something wrong, Trainer?’ and ‘Corinna’. In 1995 he became the director of mea culpa Ltd. in Berlin, which was producing the weekly program ‘Dear Sin’ for Pro 7. This very successful format was the first sex-educational magazine on German television.

In 1996 Uwe Dierks met his partner Thomas Grube. Both were inspired by Leonard Bernstein’s musical personality, which led them to become producers and directors of documentary- and music-films in 1997. In 1999, together with Andrea Thilo, they founded the firm BOOMTOWNMEDIA GmbH&CoKG in Berlin. Since then Uwe Dierks has been responsible as a producer and business director at BOOMTOWNMEDIA for the firm’s productions. In 2000 he was nominated for the German Television Prize for the television film 'WARSAW EXPRESS', then in 2005 he was awarded the German Film Prize as the producer of the successful cinema documentary 'RHYTHM IS IT!' Together with Thomas Grube, Uwe Dierks is also the business-director of the world distribution firm BOOMTOWNMEDIA INTERNATIONAL, founded in 2004.
